Armour (Leftovers of Salvation), 2025/6, aluminium, fabric,
50 x 50 x 220cm
A life-sized sculpture resembling a suit of armour, composed of overlapping aluminium feathers modelled on the original dimensions of grey heron plumage. Inspired by the grey heron—a migratory bird travelling between northern Europe and Africa that regularly rested in the fields surrounding the artist's childhood home—the work draws on the memory of watching the birds depart each season, embodying the promise of escape long before escape itself became possible. Transforming symbols of lightness and flight into a protective shell, the sculpture reflects on survival, displacement, and protection as the fragile remains of a promise of salvation.
