Long Haul (I’m Only Crying On…) is a growing series of oval-format prints, each echoing the shape of an airplane window. Every work is based on a photograph taken by Severin Hallauer during a flight. These images are digitally transformed into fluid, immersive color gradients — dissolving landscapes, time zones, and borders into abstract emotional states.
The series captures the transitional space of long-haul travel, where physical movement through the air becomes a moment of reflection. Suspended between anonymity and intimacy, each work evokes the interior world of the in-between: confined cabins, glowing night skies, jetlagged thoughts. It is in this in-between space that a profound sense of homelessness emerges, an unsettling feeling of always being suspended between places, always in transit, never truly at home. This brutal sense of liminality becomes especially apparent on these flights, as I am repeatedly thrown back onto myself, alone and adrift in the air.
The series is structured in chapters of five flights. Each flight generates one unique image, produced in an edition of 5 + 2 AP. New works are added with every long-haul journey the artist undertakes. It is, however, a question of the present: the speed at which we move between worlds intensifies, raising questions about stability, acceleration, and alienation—questions that become ever more pressing in our increasingly transient existence.
